Activities

When organising activities we believe the smaller the group the better – giving more time to the notion of the individual – and this is reflected in the outgoing confidence of many of the children.

As they grow, we create tailor-made activities to enhance their interactive skills with the world around them and to encourage imaginative play.

Outdoor

Play is an essential part of every child’s growth and development and our nursery is well-equipped with a large, safe, enclosed garden including sand pits, climbing frames and lots of outdoor toys. Each child is involved in the annual cycle of growth through planting seeds, helping to care for flowers and vegetables and sampling the eventual harvest.

Outings

There are regular outings and the children benefit from the extended learning that can be gleaned from every new experience. The beach is just across the road and we regularly walk there to explore. Our trips further afield have included visits to Fishers Farm, Drusilla’s Zoo, Paulton’s Park, local parks and the beach, as well as a visit to the nursery from a real Fire Engine.

Regular Extra Activities

Yoga

Mini-Me Yoga ran a training session for 4 of our Nursery Practitioners to teach them how to hold 15 minute yoga sessions with our 2, 3 & 4 year old children. The children all enjoy moving along with their adult and choosing which pose they would like to do. Laughter from these sessions is frequently heard when they are practising the giggle pose, which they all love!

Wannado Street Dance

Our children have great fun dancing with Kerry from Wannado when she comes to teach them Streetdance. The building resounds with music and laughter as they learn how to follow instructions whilst enjoying boogieing to exciting music!

Creative Waves

Nadia from Creative Waves spends one week each month with us. The children have great fun creating ‘big art’ with her along with the props for our leavers play and nativity.

Nadia also paints our nursery windows, making sure we always look bright and colourful!

Special Events and Outings

Each year the nursery staff organise events for our families.

In Spring the nursery becomes a ‘Child Free Zone’ for an evening. This is a Parents’ Evening with a difference and gives you the opportunity to sit down with your child’s Key Worker and discuss their development and achievements in detail. Parents can also sample some nursery activities and it’s a great Opportunity to meet the parents of your child’s particular friends.

Nursery Outings

All of our children are taken on short outings during the nursery day – walks in the buggies for the babies, walks to the beach for the older children and occasional trips out in the mini bus – to help them develop their understanding of the world about them.

Once a year we will organise a ‘whole day’ outing and invite parents to join us. We hope that as many parents as possible will come. We will take children over the age of 3 years under the supervision of our own staff if they cannot.

Younger children may only join the outing if a parent or other responsible adult can also attend. Details are announced each year via our Newsletters.

Charity Events

Throughout the year the nursery, with your input, will choose certain fund-raising events to support local charities. Some events are organised nationally; others are more local and may have special meaning to the nursery if we have a child or their family closely connected to a particular Charity.
